Please read carefully. By accessing or using VoteValue, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this disclaimer and the terms below. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Informational Purposes Only

VoteValue is a free, nonpartisan, educational civic-engagement tool. All content, scores, maps, metrics, letters, and analyses provided on this site — including but not limited to the Voting Value Index (VVI), district maps, compactness metrics, Gerrymander Guesser results, marketplace letters, and demographic or election data — are provided for general informational and educational purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes legal, political, financial, statistical, scientific, or professional advice of any kind.

2. No Warranty — "As Is"

VoteValue is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, title, uninterrupted service, or error-free operation. We make no representations that the information presented is current, accurate, complete, or reliable.

3. Third-Party Data Sources

VoteValue aggregates and analyzes publicly available data from third-party sources, including but not limited to the MIT Election Data and Science Lab, the U.S. Census Bureau, the Voting and Election Science Team (VEST), Open States, TIGER/Line shapefiles, Google Maps, and Auth0. We do not control these sources and are not responsible for their accuracy, availability, or continued existence. Data may be delayed, incomplete, outdated, misclassified, or subject to revision. Any reliance on such data is at your own risk.

4. Not Official Voter or Election Information

VoteValue is not a government agency, election authority, political party, campaign, or official source of voter information. Nothing on this site should be used as a substitute for information provided by official state or federal election authorities.

For authoritative information about voter registration, polling locations, ballot contents, voting deadlines, identification requirements, and election procedures, please consult your state or local election office or visit vote.gov.

5. Nonpartisan Position

VoteValue is strictly nonpartisan. We do not endorse, oppose, or fundraise for any candidate, political party, political action committee, ballot measure, or campaign. Any analysis, score, visualization, or letter generated by the platform reflects mathematical calculations on public data, not a political opinion. The appearance of any candidate, party, district, or official on the site does not imply endorsement, criticism, or affiliation.

6. Voting Value Index (VVI) — Limitations

The VVI is a composite score based on publicly available election and demographic data. It reflects our own modeling choices, including factor selection, weighting, exponential scaling, and fallback defaults when data is missing. Reasonable experts may disagree with these choices. The VVI:

7. Redistricting Tool & Gerrymander Guesser

Redistricting simulations, compactness metrics, efficiency gaps, and gerrymandering assessments are illustrative and based on geometric and statistical approximations. They are not legal opinions about the validity of any enacted or proposed district plan. Voter and partisan estimates assume uniform or population-weighted distribution within precincts or census blocks and may differ materially from actual results. Results should not be used as evidence in litigation, regulatory filings, or official redistricting proceedings without independent verification by qualified professionals.

8. Marketplace, Letters, and User-Generated Content

Users may create, publish, sign, and share redistricting proposals and letters to legislators through the Marketplace. Signatures, comments, published maps, avatars, display names, and other user-generated content reflect the views of their authors and signatories, not VoteValue. VoteValue does not verify the identity of signatories beyond standard account-creation checks and does not guarantee the accuracy of any user-generated content.

By submitting content to VoteValue, you represent that you have the right to do so, that the content does not violate any law or third-party right, and you grant VoteValue a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, display, and distribute that content on the platform. We reserve the right to remove any content for any reason.

Letters to legislators generated on the platform are templates based on user input and aggregated signatures. Recipients, delivery status, and legislative responses are outside our control. The automatic-send ("autosend") feature is currently disabled and shown in preview form only.

9. Address, Location, and Personal Data

Address lookups and location data are used to determine applicable electoral districts and are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your personal data. You are responsible for the accuracy of any information you provide.

10. No Guarantee of Availability

We do not guarantee that VoteValue will be available at all times, free of bugs, secure from unauthorized access, or compatible with any particular device or browser. Features may be added, modified, disabled, or removed at any time without notice.

11. No Professional Advice

Nothing on VoteValue constitutes legal, political-strategy, campaign-finance, journalistic, academic, regulatory, or fiduciary advice. If you require such advice, consult a qualified professional. Campaigns, committees, journalists, researchers, and public officials should independently verify any data before relying on it in a professional capacity.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall VoteValue, its creator(s), operators, contributors, affiliates, agents, volunteers, or successors be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages — including but not limited to lost profits, lost data, electoral outcomes, reputational harm, political or professional consequences, or any other loss — arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the site or any content on it, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages; in such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless VoteValue and its creator(s), operators, contributors, and affiliates from any claim, demand, loss, or damages — including reasonable attorneys' fees — arising out of or related to your use of the site, your user-generated content, or your violation of this disclaimer.

14. Intellectual Property

The VoteValue name, logo, design, source code, and original analyses are the intellectual property of the VoteValue project, protected under applicable copyright and trademark laws. Public data sources retain their own licensing and attribution terms; see our Data Sources page for details.
